Halloween Fun

For the 3rd year in a row we headed to a night time Halloween race in Wash Park for a screaming good time. Many runners dressed in costume for the costume contest and ran in a fun race where they also have a couple of kids races before it gets too dark. This year we met up with Brandon and his oldest daughter Sydney. Brandon was awesome and pushed both the big kids (Ava and Sydney) in the double stroller, while Simon pushed Dylan in the single running stroller, and I raced the race placing first for the women and won some great prizes. Here's Ava and Sydney in costume before the race. Ava's a mermaid this year. We didn't have time to dye her hair red like Ariel, but we're hoping to spray it red for Halloween. Sydney is dressed as a wickedly cute cat, but has her jacket on in this photo.

Maybe Dylan is looking curiously at Ava thinking she looks a little more grown up then usual; Ava was excited to wear a little make-up this year with her costume.

Dylan just woke from a nap before we headed out the door and I didn't want to rush getting his costume on so I just dressed him in his Halloween shirt, but no one could see it as he was all bundled up. I tend to bundle my kids a little too much. He did however wear his Halloween safety flashing light from Sharona, which he thought was fun to play with along with enjoying watching all the runners race in costume.

On Saturday, Simon timed a race in the morning. I went up to help him with the race and I also ran in the 5k race. Here's a picture of Simon in action with all his racing equipment.Later that afternoon we took advantage of the beautiful fall weather and played at the park for over an hour. Dylan just loves to go down the slide and he has now taught himself how to turn around and go down the slide on his tummy (feet first of course). This is fun for him because he can now get both on and off the slide by himself.

After a long hard play at the park, it was nap time. Once the kids awoke we realized how late it was (after 5pm) and still had to eat and get dressed in costume thus, we opted out of rushing to make it to a Halloween party. Instead we drove up North to go out for dinner and went shopping with a gift certificate that I had won early that morning in the other 5k race. At the time it sounded like an easy, great idea, but we soon remembered how difficult it was to shop and try-on clothes with two kids. We managed to get it all done, but we were exhausted by the time we got home (probably would have been easier to try and make it to the party). That morning the kids slept until 9:30!!!! It was like a little slice of heaven - until we remembered Ava had a play date at 9:30am with her buddy Jack. So, off we were again rushing to get Ava out of the house. She was so excited to go to Jack's house that she wanted to eat her breakfast (half a banana and cereal in a baggie) in the car while Simon drove her up to Jack's house.
