We love the fabulous weather that October brings us in CO and with all the great weather our October was filled with lots of outdoor activities and sporting events.
Saturday, October 4th, was filled with Ava's usual 3-4 game basketball tournament and then Sunday morning, October 5th, Simon timed the Justice 5K and 10K race at Hudson Gardens with a strong crew representing team Runcolo that morning. Simon was busy timing but, again he should have been in this photo.

...Dylan ran his first 5K ever running a very impressive 26:35!!
This guy has a lot of speed and competitive spirit and we were so proud of his first performance running a full 5K.

Ava placed 1st in her age group and her good friend Kate placed 2nd. Even with Dylan's great time he didn't get to stand on the podium because the age group was for 12 and under and as a 7 year old he placed 4th which is still just amazing.
Later that afternoon Dylan still had enough energy for an hour long flag football practice followed by...

This season was a little different for Dylan as he was playing on a 2nd/3rd grade team as a 1st grader and with this age group they started to play a passing game. Dylan still played great and worked hard but, it's been a different season with not as much scoring because their coach consistently has the boys execute passing plays with hardly any running plays and that is tough for most players at this age. Dylan caught this pass though!
Having a 10 year old girl in the house who loves to sign means Dad can't leave his P.A system lying around and not except an impromptu concert put on by Ava.

Sunday, October 11th we headed down south for the kids XC meet in Fountain, CO.
Dylan started out strong in the heat of the day for his 2K race and...

...even though he was exhausted from the heat...
...he was so proud of his 2nd place medal. Nice job Dylan.

...she too finished very strong passing 4 girls in the end.
Yep, we have even more running pictures this month but, this time we're out of state in Des Moines, IA for the Des Moines half and full marathon. We drove out to Iowa Friday with 8 other running friends of our from CO and rented a house for a team get-away-weekend. Dylan and Ava ran the 5K on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, the course was short but both Dylan and Ava ran very well in the cold.
Haley ran the 5K as well with Tristan running along side to cheer her on and Simon ran with Ava while I ran with Dylan.
Cathie, Aunt Debbie and cousins Seth and Tim came out to support the Escorcia crew on race day too. We love coming to Des Moines for the marathon because it gives us a chance to spend time with family.
The house we rented had a hot tub which was fun for the kiddos after their race.

Later that evening Dylan and Ava headed over to Aunt Debbie's house with Cathie to stay the night so that Simon and I could sleep well and get up very early for the half and full marathon. Staying at Debbie's house with their Omi gave them a chance to hang with Simon's second cousins.
Team dinner pre-race. The house we rent was huge and perfect for all of us to gather, hang out and relax both pre and post race.
Simon ran the full marathon while I ran the half. Our busy schedules didn't allow us the best opportunity to train but, we trained enough to both finish well. Neither of us came close to a PR but, we still had a great time and a pretty good race.

After the tournament (which was way up north), Ava randomly asked when the Halloween Haunted Hayride was. For the past three years we've gone to the Haunted Hayride at the Stockton Stables and some how this year it slipped my mind to put it on the calendar. I was glad Ava reminded me though and we checked the website from my phone and realized that this was the last night for the ride. If we hurried we could make it way down south for the last ride of the night.
We just barley made it in flip flops and basketball clothes but, luckily it was somewhat warm that night and...
...I had two fleece blankets in the car as well. Phew... we still got our traditional spook-on for Halloween and for the 4th year in a row.
The next morning the 25th we were up early again to head south to Colorado Springs for another xc meet. I love this picture with Pikes Peak in the background.

October is almost over and finally time to get pumpkins.
We were cutting it close on not getting pumpkins carved this year. The kids gutted them but, unfortunately ran out of time to carve before heading to Dylan's football game. Then by a few days later when they went to finally carve them, their pumpkins were too rotten. Ava was not happy with me but sometime we just run out of time to fit everything in.
Thursday night was a big night for me and the other parents pictured with me because we all worked hard until 9PM to build the traditional 5th grade Haunted House and...
...surgery room. This Halloween tradition is a big deal for the 5th graders and we did our best to create and build an amazing, totally blacked out, scary haunted house and surgery room. Their faces on Friday afternoon made all the hard work worth it.
Some of us were also in charge of all the party food for all three classes on Friday but, luckily I still had time to...
...run outside and wave to Dylan in the Halloween parade and...
...I found Ava too.

While Ava was having a screaming good time in her 5th grade haunted house, I was able to catch Dylan having a smashing good donut time at his 1st grade Halloween party.
Nailed it! What a fun Halloween day at school for both kids.
The next morning, these two kids were tough and up early Halloween morning for the Creepy Crawl 5K that Simon was timing. Ava, Dylan and Mom all took first place in our age groups and won cool skeleton drinking glasses with certificates to design and order up our own cool jump ropes.
After a big breakfast at the Original Pancake House and a much needed nap, we then walked over to the Sorrel's house across the street for our traditional neighborhood chili dinner before trick-or-treating party. What a great group of kids.

...the boys led the pack with the parents and littlest ones in the middle. So thankful for our wonderful neighbor crew to have these fun traditions with.
