2017... the start of a new year and the kids were still on winter break. This year the kids were on break all the way through January 9th (their break was the same two week break but started very late and went more than a week into January) and it was also the first January in 5 years that we decided not to take our annual resort, beach trip to Mexico/Costa Rica. The kids voted to take a big road trip this summer instead plus Simon and I were feeling like some of our trips were starting to blend together a little, so we were all feeling like it was ok for us to take this year off. Therefore, with us not going to Mexico or Costa Rica this year as well as the kids break going through the 9th, Simon and I made sure to keep the kids busy while we both still had to get our work done.
January 2nd, Dylan stayed busy with his Hot Wheels and I was able to capture another one of Dylan's imaginative Hot Wheels track creations. Dylan took up half the basement with his village and Simon and I had to walk through an obstacle course to get to our desks but, it sure kept Dylan busy for hours.
Simon also kept the kids busy by going to the gym several times that week to practice basketball. I was able to snap this picture of Simon and the kids from above while I was working out at Life Time on the upper floor on January 5th.
Later that afternoon we came home from the gym and continued to keep the kids busy with shoveling snow from a much needed storm that had come through earlier that night. You can see the kids behind Simon being so kind and helpful by shoveling Mrs. Lois' driveway for her. Nice work!
January 7th the kids and I went up to the mountains to stay busy by going skiing with Sharona. It was a wonderful day of skiing but, also a very cold day of skiing too. After our ski day the kids were quick to warm up by the warm fire with their rosy red cheeks.
The next day back in Centennial... our old girl napping on a warm, sunny winter day on Sunday the 8th.
There wasn't much snow to work with but the boys were still being boys that afternoon on the 8th with some sledding fun.
One of Ava's Christmas gifts from the DeBourcy's was this awesome puzzle which Ava worked on most of Christmas break. Ava did a majority of the work during break but, I definitely clocked many hours helping her as well because it was by far the hardest puzzle ever. On the 9th, the last day of break, Ava and I (with a little help from Dylan) finished the puzzle. Woohoo! Now it was time for her to color it all in.
After a wonderful and relaxing winter break it was time for a big day of Ava getting her braces put on Thursday, January 12th. Looking so cute and everything went great.
Later that night we headed to Twain to watch Dylan's 2nd grade musical performance of "Bailey and The Bees"
Dylan was an amazing, animated bee and did a great job with all his parts in the performance. So fun to watch.

On the 13th, Dylan had another Friday night basketball game.
Of course the next day, Saturday the 14th, it was then Ava's turn for some bball.
Later that afternoon, the kids and I biked to the Arapahoe Park to check out the brand new playground set they had just built with one of the tallest slides the kids had ever seen at a neighborhood park.

Sunday the 15th was Dylan's 2nd wresting match and by now he had several practices under his belt as well as a new coach and a new team, The Golden Eagles.
Dylan did awesome, earned several points for the right moves and...
...got his first pin too! Great job Dylan. He won his first match.
In Dylan's second match, he lost however, he fought hard and still scored some great points during the match.
Later that night it was sleepover time because the kids didn't have school the next day. The girls were nice enough to let the boys join them for a little while and then...
...later they kicked the boys out for some root-beer float time in the tub.
Friday night the 20th, another bball game for Dylan! Great job getting all those rebounds Dylan.
A little belated but, we were excited Sharona stopped by our house own her way home from flying in from Kansas after visiting Aunt Cindy so that we could wish her a belated happy birthday on the 21st.

The kids were so excited to celebrate Sharona's birthday so they were so thankful she was able to stop on her way back up to the mountains.
Sunday, January 22nd, we headed up north to Loveland to watch Ava play two basketball games of which she played amazing in. She had great defense, had lots of steals, was crashing the boards and making free throws and lots of points. Amazing job Ava!

A random picture from Monday the 23rd of evidence that Dylan was home from school. I walked upstairs to the kitchen from my office to find this mess. At least I knew he had washed his hands and made himself a snack.
Tuesday morning the 24th we headed to Powell to honor Ava for being on the all A honor roll.
There were many kids who made the A and B honor roll but, not nearly as many who made the all A honor roll which Ava had earned plus Ava was in two advanced classes so we were extremely proud of Ava for making all A honor roll and for all her accomplishments and hard work.
Ava had found time to fit guitar practice back into her busy schedule. So great to hear her playing again.
Friday the 27th Dylan played an amazing game of basketball.

Sunday, the 29th we finally didn't have to head up north for one of Ava's CBC basketball because she had a weekend off so we were thrilled to join our running friends for a huge group run with the kids on bikes. It was a gorgeous day for a group run/bike followed by an even more fun...

They had tons of open space for the kids to play which they loved and...
...Simon and I loved getting to spend time catching up with great friends too.
Dylan's practice on the 30th was a scrimmage so that was a fun way to spend his practice time.

Later that evening Ava and went to Dylan's wrestling scrimmage where he won two out of his three matches. Way to go Dylan! So proud of how much you've learned about wrestling and all the different moves and learning how to score points in your first season.
I've never been a huge fan of watching wrestling but, I have really learned to appreciate how hard the sport of wrestling is and have loved how good wresting was for Dylan this season. Wrestling sure wore him out and he learned a ton too! I hope he wants to join again next season.
