Sleeping in Friday morning was such a nice treat for us. Next we headed out for a nice run around the campuses of both Drexel and Univ. of Penn and later we made sure to stop in at a coffee shop to pick up some lattes before heading out to see the sights of the city.
Friday night we walked from our hotel into downtown to meet up with Simon's sister, Andrea and her husband Greg.
Just about a year ago we met up with Greg, Andrea and their little girl Lila, while we were in New York for the NY Marathon so we were thankful that they were again able to drive from NY to see us just a year later in Pennsylvania for the Philadelphia Marathon.
Saturday we slept in again, of course, went for a run again, and headed out for coffee again, (apparently those are three big treats for us since we made sure to fit them all in each morning) and we later found a cute shopping square and farmers market to walk around.
Next we ate a late brunch with Andrea and niece, Lila. She's such a cutie and were we so excited Andrea met up with us Saturday so that we would have a chance to see and play with Lila too.Then it was off to the marathon expo. where we met up with Mark and Natalee who just flew in from Iowa because Mark was running in the marathon as well.
After dinner we happened upon a great place for yummy desserts where Natalee and I then stayed out for a little girls night out while the boys then headed back to the hotel to get some shut-eye before their big race.The marathon, unfortunately, didn't go that well for either Simon or Mark, but Natalee and I still enjoyed cheering them on and we all had a great weekend catching up and seeing the sights of Philadelphia.
While we were away Ava and Dylan had tons of fun playing with Grampy and Sharona who were so wonderful to stay at our house to watch the kids and take care of Marley.
Friday night they all headed to the Streets at Southglenn for the tree lighting ceremony and to see Santa. If you look closely you can see Santa passing out candy from the fire truck, but what you'll really notice in the picture is how Dylan is completely terrified of Santa. Poor little guy.
Ava enjoyed Santa and the lights, but was also excited to see that the skating rink had finally been set up for the winter and so I'm sure she'll be asking me hundred times to go very soon.
After the lights and the scare of Santa, they later headed out for delicious and very colorful ice cream.
On Saturday for Grampy's birthday he wanted to go to Bass Pro Shop where they also had a Santa Wonderland already set up and ready for all the kids to enjoy Christmas trains, Santa's workshop, and a Christmas ferrous wheel (and of course all of Grampys favorite fishing and hunting gear was a big hit for him too).
However, this was as close as Dylan came to Santa at his workshop (in the far distance over Dylan's left shoulder you can barely see Santa).
And a happy, happy birthday to Grampy. I missed seeing my dad on his birthday, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't feeling unloved with two of his grand kids there to help him celebrate.
On Sunday Ava and Dylan got messy and giggly from all their yummy icing and candy they ate while decorating their super cute gingerbread house. It turned out great!Thanks again, Mom and Dad for watching Ava and Dylan for us while we were away. Although it may not seem like Simon and I were able to relax much because I called the kids three times a day, we really did have such a great time away knowing the kids were at home in good hands and having such a fun time with you both. Since we've been home the kids have told us many fun stories of their weekend with their grandparents.
